KKDIK REGULATION

As stated in Article 65 of the KKDIK Regulation, it has been prepared regarding the EU-Turkey Customs Union relations legislation, which entered into force in 1995 as part of Turkey’s harmonization process with the European Union. Following the REACH regulation that entered into force in the European Union in 2008, a draft KKDIK regulation was published by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization in 2013 for harmonization in the legislation. KKDIK is also called Turkish Reach because it is similar to REACH applied in European countries. The KKDIK regulation imposes an extra burden on companies that import chemicals to the Turkish market, residing in Turkey or international importers, distributors or manufacturers. According to KKDIK, manufacturers supplying to the national market from outside Turkey are required to appoint a Representative based in Turkey.

Along with the KKDIK regulation, 1 ton or more of chemicals produced in Turkey and 1 ton of chemicals imported to Turkey on their own or in a mixture

Things to know about KKDIK;

KKDIK is the abbreviation of the regulation on the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals and was created by harmonizing the Reach legislation used in European countries with the Turkish legislation in order to protect human health and the environment. The KKDIK Regulation, published by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate of the Republic of Turkey on June 23, 2017, aims to establish human health and the environment at the highest level from the negative effects of chemicals.

The main objectives of KKDIK are;

To protect human health and the environment from the harm of chemicals at a high level.

To oblige those who supply chemicals to the market (producer, manufacturer, importer) from ensuring the safe use of chemicals.

To increase competition and innovation in the Turkish chemical industry

To reduce animal experiments used in the evaluation of harmful properties of substances and to encourage alternative methods.
